History

Formed 8.20.44 in Bitsch (Elsass) as an alarm unit, to reinforce the units atArnhem. The division was formed from remnants of other units, and manytraining schools in Germany. On 9.09.44 the last of 43 train-loads hadtransported the division to Holland. The division had no heavy weapons,except in the Panzer-Jäger-Abteilung.

On 10.09.44 the division was renamed as the 7.Fallschirm-Jäger-Division.The regiments did not change their designations until 11.25.44, and theyoperated initially with their old names under the new division.
