The approximately 100 survivors from the von der Heydte Battalion were regrouped in early 1945 as cadre for an independent Battalion. The Battalion was reinforced with non-Fallschirmjaeger personnel and assigned to the Grossdeutschland Panzerkorps. It suffered heavy losses in lower Silesia and was posted to the Hermann Goering FallschirmPanzer-Korps. After fighting in the Dresden area, survivors of the Panzer-Korps surrendered to the Russians in May, 1945.
