 The Luftschutzwarndienst by Jason Pipes
The Luftschutzwarndienst, or Air Raid Warning Service, was a civilian organization under the guidance of the Luftwaffe that was responsible for the timely warning of incoming enemy air raids and attacks on German cities, towns and installations. It functioned by taking reports from its members, from the Flugmeldedienst, and from the various related Polizei organizations, after which they processed the information so as to set in motion the sounding of air raid sirens prior to an attack. The organization was also responsible for the sounding of the all clear siren once a raid or attack was over.
