    History

The 6.Volksgrenadier-Division was formed on October 9th, 1944 from the 6.Grenadier-Division.

The re-fitted 6.Volksgrenadier-Divsion, which never reached beyond kampfgruppe status or strength, was sent to the Eastern Front to face the Soviets along the Vistula River in December of 1944, and later took part in the retreat through Poland. In Januaury, 1945 the Division was again destroyed in the Weichsel Bend region.

The 6th was refomed on March 10, 1945, this time as the 6.Infanterie-Division, mainly from the Schatten-Division Dresden and the few remains of the 6.Volksgrenadier-Division.
