    History

The 18.Panzergrenadier-Division was formed on June 23rd, 1943 from the 18.Infanterie-Divison (mot.).

The 18.Panzergrenadier-Division was later destroyed in June of 1944 in fierce combat on the Eastern Front during the Soviet Summer Offensive against Armeegruppe Mitte. Some of the remains of the Division were sent to the 105.Panzer-Brigade.

The Division was then reformed on September 7th, 1944 at Truppenübungsplatz Neuhammer as Kampfgruppe 18.Pzgren.Div. from Panzer-Brigade 105. Formation was never completed though, and Panzer-Brigade 105 remained independent.

The Division was later reorganized in December of 1944 in Wehrkreis I from various ad-hoc units.

As the end drew near the Division was disbanded in March of 1945 in the region of East Prussia. The Division Stab was reformed as Stab/Division Ulrich von Hutten on April 4th, 1945.

The Division was reformed a final time on March 21st, 1945, in the region of the Vistula River, mainly from portions of Panzer-Divsion Holstein and Panzer-Division Schlesien.
