History

  • Completed for Hapag, Germany;
  • 1914 Target and accommodation ship; 18.5.19 to UK;
  • 1922 Norwegian S/P Meteor;
  • Seized by Germans 27.4.40 in Bergen;
  • Into service 7.5.40 as a hospital ship;
  • 12.5.42 Admiral Polarküste;
  • On 19.3.42 ordered renamed Rostock*, but this order was cancelled 28.5.42, due to resistance from the crew (known internally as Meteor II);
  • Bombed 9.3.45 in Pillau and sunk, 24 dead.

* to avoid confusion, as there already was a Meteor in KM service (a research ship).
