1st Hochgebirgs-Jäger Battalion

The Hochgebirgs-Jäger-Bataillone of the Wehrmacht were highly trainedunits of mountain troops trained for combat in the highest peaks and mountainranges, Hoch- meaning high, therefore Hochgebirgs-Jäger were high mountaintroops.

The 1.Hochgebirgs-Jäger-Bataillon was formed on 7.20.42 from the1.Ausbildung-Battalion (Training) of the Alpine Troops located inBerchtesgaden. This unit saw action on the Eastern Front during 1942 and1943, before being disbanded in the winter of 1943 with the men of the unitbeing posted to the 1.Gebirsjäger-Division.
