  • History The Waffen-Grenadier-Brigade der SS Charlemagne (französische Nr.1) was formed from the Französisch SS-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade and the verst.Franz.Gren.Inf.Reg.638 (LVF) in September of 1944. Almost as soon as the formation was formed, various elements of French collaborationist organizations and ex-LVF and Brigade members were organizied into the future 33.SS-Division. The autumn and winter of 1944-45 was spent in this organization and formation, until the February 1945, when the Waffen-Grenadier-Brigade der SS Charlemange was officaly formed into the 33.Waffen-Grenadier-Division der SS Charlemagne (französische Nr.1).
