  • Show outstanding leadership skills, or
  • Display a single act of heroism or merit for which no other award was given, or
  • Individual was killed in action as a result of duty
As a crew:
  • Achieve eight points through the following criteria: 2 points for downing an aircraft unassisted, 1 point for downing an aircraft assisted, and .5 points for aiding in the downing of aircraft for radar, searchlight, or other such units
