The I./FJR.1 was formed at Stendal 1.4.38, from the IV./Regiment General Göring (Landespolizei). The II./FJR.1 was formed 1.1.39 from the the Fallschirm-Bataillon des Heeres in Braunschweig, together with an all new III./FJR.1 in Gardelegen. The regiment did not receive a Stab until 1.6.39, when a Stab was formed in Stendal. The Regiment began the war with 3 Battalions, each with 4 companies. In March 1944 a new III/FJR.1 had to be formed, as the old III./FJR.1 was used to create the 3. Fallschirm-Jäger-Division. Organisation: Saw action independently under 7. Flieger-Division, but from May 43 was part of the 1. Fallschirm-Jäger-Division:

Formed 26.8.39 with I. and II./FJR.2 (I. at Gardelegen, II. at Tangermünde) from cadres of FJR.1. The Stab and III./FJR.2 was formed 21.5.40. In 9.42 III./FJR.2 was redesignated III./FJR.4, and was replaced in 1943. I./FJR.2 remained in Italy when the 2. Fallschirm-Jäger-Division moved to Russia in December 1943, and was redesignated I./FJR.10. A new I. Btl. was later formed, but this never joined the rest of the regiment, but operated independently on the Western front (8.44 in Ahrbrück, 9.44 under Fs.AOK.1 in Belgium [Albert-Kanal] and Holland [Arnheim-Nijmegen], and was used to reform the new FJR.2 in Amersfoort, Holland). The main part of the regiment was destroyed when Brest fell on 19.9.44. Reformed 12.44 in Amersfoort, and finally surrendered in the Ruhr pocket. Saw action independently under 7. Formed 1.6.40 with 3 battalions (III. formed 1.8.40, II. and III. at Braunschweig-Rautheim), from cadres of Fallschirm-Jäger-Regiment 1. IV./FJR.3 was formed in the summer 1943. I./FJR.3 was transferred to Africa 7.42, joining Brigade Ramcke, and was destroyed in Tunisia May 1943. The new IV./FJR.3 was soon redesignated I./FJR.3. In 3.44 III./FJR.3 was used to create the 5. Fallschirm-Jäger-Division, by becoming the I./Fallschirm-Jäger-Regiment 13. A new III./FJR.3 was formed in May 1944. Organisation: Saw action independently under 7. Formed in 5.42, Stab and I./FJR.5 new, II. and III./FJR.5 from II. and III./Luftlande-Sturm-Regiment 1. In 7.42 II./FJR.5 was sent to Africa and joined Brigade Ramcke, while the rest of the regiment transferred to Reims (training for Operation Hercules, attack om Malta). Stab, I. and III./FJR.5 were transferred to Tunisia in November 1942, joining Brigade Ramcke. II./FJR.5 was apparently disbanded shortly afterwards. On 2.43 FJR.5 was redesignated Jäger-Regiment Hermann Göring, now part of Division General Göring. Destroyed 5.43. Reformed 10.43 (only II./FJR.5) and saw action in South Russia together with 2. Fallschirm-Jäger-Division (10.43 Shitomir, 1.44 Kirovograd), but was destroyed at Kirovograd. Only the Stab II./FJR.5 remained and on 7.44 became Stab/FJR.16. An entire new regiment began forming 1.44 in Reims, later Brest. When III./FJR.1 arrived in Brest in March 1944, it became the basis of the new FJR.5. Formed in February 1943 in the Vannes/Bretagne area, I./FJR.6 from Luftwaffe-Feld-Bataillon 100, II./FJR.6 from IV./Luftlande-Sturm-Regiment 1, the Stab and III./FJR.6 new. When the division left Italy for Russia, II./FJR.6 remained behind and became I./FJR.11. The rest of the regiment was disbanded, I./FJR.6 becoming I./FJR.7, while the remainder of the regiment was divided between FJR.2 and FJR.7. The Regiment was reformed in Köln-Wahn in January 1944.
