Reassigned to 5.lei.Div on 15 Feb 41. Shipped to Tripoli, arriving between
8 and 10 Mar 41. 5.lei.Div renamed 21.Pz.Div in Aug 41. Regiment was
expanded to eight Kp by forming 3. & 7./Pz.Rgt.5 on 15 Sep 41 (they were
formed in Germany). Combat losses reduced Pz.Rgt.5 to one Abt (II.) 3. &
7./Kp were sank while in transit to North Africa on 19 Dec 41. New 3. &
7./Kp were formed on 6 Jan 42. New I.Abt. formed on 15 Jan 43. II.Abt
renamed II./Pz.Rgt.8 on 17 Jan 43. II.Abt reformed from renamed Pz.Abt.190
on 6 Feb 43. Surrendered in Tunisia in May 43.
