The Hochgebirgs-Jäger-Bataillone of the Wehrmacht were highly trained
units of mountain troops trained for combat in the highest peaks and mountain
ranges, Hoch- meaning high, therefore Hochgebirgs-Jäger were high mountain
troops.
The 2.Hochgebirgs-Jäger-Bataillon was formed on 7.20.42 from the
2.Ausbildung-Battalion (Training) of the Alpine Troops located in
Innsbruck. This unit saw action on the Eastern Front during 1942 and
1943, before being disbanded in the winter of 1943 with the men of the unit
being posted to the 54.Gebrigs-Abteilung on Febuary 12th, 1943.
